History of this trip

Ever since I was a teenager, my dad and I have been talking about the good old Mother Road - Route 66. We have been planning this trip for several years now, but something has always come in between, from schedule conflicts to house projects to newborn kids.

We finally have been able to make it work this year and we're scheduled to take off in a week from now. We plan on driving from Chicago to Santa Monica in two weeks. It's an aggressive schedule but we'll make the best of the time we can spend on the road.

Wednesday, Aug 22: Springfield, MO to Tulsa, OK
Thursday, Aug 23: Tulsa, OK to Oklahoma City, OK
Friday, Aug 24: Oklahoma City, OK to Clinton, OK
Saturday, Aug 25: Clinton, OK to Amarillo, TX
Sunday, Aug 26: Amarillo, TX to Albuquerque, NM
Monday, Aug 27: Albuquerque, NM to Gallup, NM
Tuesday, Aug 28: Gallup, NM to Flagstaff, AZ
Wednesday, Aug 29: Side trip to Grand Canyon
Thursday, Aug 30: Flagstaff, AZ to Kingman, AZ
Friday, Aug 31: Kingman, AZ to Barstow, CA
Saturday, Sept 1: Barstow, CA to Santa Monica, CA
